It has awakened something inside of me.

I can kind of be a home body. And when I say home body, I really mean- recluse. But this warm weather has got me wanting to be out. To be with my kids on the lawn. To see friends and let the sun hit my skin a bit.

It’s been therapy for my spirit.

I think, for theirs too.

She is too young, right?

She persisted. And on a whim, we caved.

She learned to ride a bike without her training wheels in about ten minutes.

Maybe we should trust her instincts better next time.

Maybe we just don’t want her to grow up.

I shoot my kids almost everyday, so it can be a little difficult thinking of ways to show them in a different way.

We were all in my bedroom the other day when I asked Jessie if I could take some pictures of her. She quickly said yes, jumped on the bed, and spread the edges of her dress out across the bed like a princess.

I didn’t want to guide her in any way while photographing her. I wanted to capture her exactly as she is. Perfect in her own very special way.

We had the Disney channel on Pandora playing and she was singing along. All of the sudden she closed her eyes, raised her hands and danced to the music.

She danced like nobody else on the planet was watching. Or maybe she knew, but she simply didn’t care.

I sat back in a corner squished against the wall and my dresser. I watched smiling, heart full of love- and then would snap a picture or two. Then would go back to admiring her spunk. Her confidence. Her spirit.

Its a hard thing to do. Especially in front of a camera. You know- open yourself up completely. Not worried about what you look like or how you are being portrayed. You simply are yourself. Free and wild.

She reminded me to chase the sun.

I also absolutely love having talented friends who are so giving in their knowledge.

My friend Mitch Issel, came over to my house a while back to shoot some 4×5 with me, of my girls. At the end we had a Polaroid party. Mitch has a sweet polaroid back that takes two polaroids on one sheet. It seriously looks like a blog post on paper. Amazing!

These images mean the world to me.

As I pulled them apart and saw the love that was printed on them, I got chocked up. I saw my family captured being together. Being us. Being silly and a little wild at times. They are special to me.

Will be forever.

Some of these were shot by me and some were shot by my talented friend. Just a few from that day. (all scanned in on my POS scanner at home. Left as is) :)
